Local higher studies scholarships for 2nd batch of foreign students

The Higher Education Ministry is to take in the second batch of foreign students to study in Sri Lanka, Ministry officials said.
Accordingly, 100 scholarships will be given to foreign students, along with US$ 300 per month as expenses. “These students can do their postgraduate and undergraduate studies. We have informed the respective countries through their embassies regarding this programme, so that those interested could apply,” Ministry Secretary, Dr Sunil Jayantha Nawaratne said.

Dr Nawaratne added that the Government had decided to give scholarships to these students because Sri Lankan students are given such liberty in overseas universities, while we have not offered any till now.

“These students will be given aid to conduct research, and we believe that, with our rich culture and developing tourism, they will be benefited by all aspects,” Dr Nawaratne said.

He further said that students who were down last year, have done research which were also published internationally.
