Defence Services trounce Kandy HA

Defence Services trounced Kandy HA by four goals to nil and emerge champions at the 23rd Women’s Hockey Nationals that was conducted by the SLHF at the Astro turf on recently. At the short whistle the scores were deadlocked at nil all.

In the 39th minute of the second half, centre forward Chathurika Wijesooriya found a gap in the Kandy HA defence for left extreme K.A.C.T. Themiyadasa to put the Defence Services one up and four minutes right inside Madushan passed to left extreme Themiyadasa to score her second goal.

In the 46th minute, Defence Services were awared a penalty corner and Y.M.B. Gunasekera made not mistake (3-0).

The final goal of the game was in the 47th minute when centre forward Chathrika Wijesooriya worked her way past the Kandy HA defenders for Themiyadasa to net her third goal and give the Defence Services a 4-0 win. The game was refereed by M. Naushad and D.R.B. Dissanayake while H.L. Mithrapala was the reserve umpire. (BM)

Combined Universities take consolation

Combined Universities took the consolation when they defeated State Services by six goals to one at the 23rd Women’s Hockey Nationals that was concluded at the Astro turf recently. At half time the undergraduates held a 4-1 lead.

For the Combined Universities centre forward W.M.L. Wijesundera added three goals in the 2nd, 11th and 46th minutes, Hansane Rajapaksse, right extreme scored one in the 22nd minute, left inside N.H.P. Anupama added the 5th in the 29th minute and the sixth goal was off the stick of left extreme Waruni Hewanayake in the 69th minute.For the State Services, the solitary goal was by Lasanthi Pabasara in the 42nd minute.

The game was controlled by H.M.C. Bandara and C. Dissanayake while T.D.K.S. Perera was the reserve umpire. – BM
