ICC brings sitar and drums music

Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo has organised two musical events with sitar and drums music. A sitar recital titled “Praveshi” of Visharad Tania Karunaratne and Visharad Dinuka Samith Weerasinghe will be performed at 6.00 pm on Wednesday July 10 at ICC auditorium, 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 07.

Tania Karunaratne and Dinuka Samith Weerasinghe have completed their degree in Music from the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Sri Lanka under the guidance of Dr. Nirmala Kumari Rodrigo. Both of them are also music students of Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo since 2009. Since then they have been part of the Sitar orchestra of the Centre and taken part in its annual show ”Nav Pratibha”.
Meanwhile celebrity drummer and dancer Ravibandhu Vidyapathy and his dance ensemble presents a musical and dance performance at 6.00 pm on Friday, July 12 at the Indian Cultural Centre.

Ravibandhu Vidyapathi, hails from a long line of traditional dancers and temple painters, had his traditional graduation at the Chitrasena School, where he studied Classical Kandyan dance under the legendary dancers Chitrasena and Vajira and drumming under the renowned Piyasara Shilpadhipathi and Punchiguro.
