Seven national higher educational institutes will come together for the Hulftsdorp debates for the second consecutive year next weekend. A one of a kind debating competition among university level students in Sri Lanka, the debates will be held from July 13 and 14 at the Law College premises.

The Hulftsdorp debates are organised by the English Literary Association of the Sri Lanka Law College with the aim of improving debating standards within and outside the Law College. Through the debates, they hope to establish a network of understanding and cooperation among the various universities and institutions. The main organisers for the event Akhila Dalpatadu, Ramitha Dissanayake and Migara Doss stressed that they plan to maintain the high standards of last year, and adding that the event was open to the public.

The debates will be attended by 12 teams from the University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya, University of Sri Jayawardanapura, University of Moratuwa, Kothelawala Defense University, and Sabaragamuwa University along with the Law College.

The Debaters Council of Sri Lanka will be overseeing and participating in adjudication to maintain transparency. The finals of the Hulftsdorp debates will be held at 4pm on July 14 at Law College.
