discipline. The school has been managed extremely well under Buddhist priests since its inception.

Sri Saddhathissa was initiated on February 25, 1954 in the era where missionary schools dominated. The leading priest of the area, the Hon. Late Maswila Saddhathissa thero established the school with only 12 girls and 12 boys at the village temple. Forthis achievement Hon. Maswila Saddhathissa thero’s name has been entered as the founder of the school.

On the brink of the new ear, there were many setbacks in the process of studies. The Nayaka thero established the Teachers-Parents Association for the benefit of the school. Then the government donated a five acre land on the request of the “Parama Vingnartha Baudha Samagama” to put up a permanent building. The new building was declared open by the philanthropist late Mr.H.D.Lion Appuhami. With the blessings of all well wishers and the government which prevailed, the school was named Walgama Saddhathissa Kanishta Vidyalaya.
