The subject of Atomic Energy has been withdrawn from the portfolio currently held by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Instead he will now be only Minister of Technology and Research in terms of a June 24 Gazette Extraordinary signed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Minister Ranawaka was not immediately available for comment. His Ministry officials said he was on a visit to Russia. President Rajapaksa is also overseas.

With the new change, he will be responsible for 14 departments, corporations and statutory bodies including the Institute of Policy Studies and National Engineering Research and Development Centre.

Among his duties, already assigned earlier to the Ministry before he took charge, is the formulation of policies, programmes and projects in regard to the subjects of Technology, Research and all subjects that come under the purview of departments and statutory institutions on the basis of ‘Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future’, and any other overall national policies that may be adopted by the Government. Another is the “provision of all public services that come under the purview of the Ministry in an efficient and people friendly manner.”
