Despite efforts to regulate the private omnibus operators and provide passengers with a better service, these photos our cameraman captured portray the utter disregard for rules and lack of concern by drivers and conductors for the safety and security of passengers.
While it is made mandatory for all private bus operators to wear uniforms, this law is often observed in the breach.

Though the issuing of tickets to commuters is also mandatory, tickets are rarely issued. Transporting passengers safely to their destination does not seem to be the guiding principle of bus drivers. The aim of some drivers seems to be to fill their vehicles to capacity, without caring for their safety. From adults to children, these drivers put their passengers’ lives at risk by driving overcrowded buses, seating children on the engine by the driver’s seat and talking on mobile phones while driving overcrowded buses.

A dangerous trend: Children travelling on the footboard of overcrowded buses

Distracted: This bus driver seems to be concentrating on everything but his driving… a weighty problem on his mind, a phone in his hand

Issuing of bus tickets has become a dead letter

Our cameraman captured this scene of a driver keeping a young child on the engine… The slightest jerk would send the child flying out of the bus
