Sangeetha Narthana Mathuram – — an evening of carnatic music and bharata natyam – is the latest offering of the Neelan Tiruchelvam Trust (NTT), on March 3 at the British School Auditorium. The event is a part of a string of cultural performances that NTT has organised each year, in commemoration of the birth of Dr. Neelan Tiruchelvam, after whom NTT is named.

Dr. Murugesu Navaratnam, renowned Jaffna carnatic musician is current Head of the Music Department in the Jaffna University . Dr Navaratnam was enthusiastic in his recollection of Dr Tiruchelvam. “I knew Dr. Neelan. He was a wonderful personality. I remember he visited Nainativu but after that I did not have an opportunity to meet him. It is therefore a privilege for me to perform at this event which commemorates his birth.”

Dr. Navaratnam will be accompanied in his vocal renditions by his daughter Smt. Thanasoruby Navaratnam and son Sri Paranthaman Navaratnam.The bharata natyam performance will be led by Smt. Shanthy Ganesharajah also of Jaffna but currently residing in Colombo, along with the best students from her dance school Niruthya Narthanalayam.
