Lalith De Silva, Mobitel CEO has assumed duties in a newly created post of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chairman of SLT Nimal Welgama revealed in staff circular issued on Thursday.

Mr De Silva told Chief Officers of the company after assuming office that he will review all plans including the 2013 corporate , business operational plans and targets as well as policies set by former CEO Greg Young. He solicited the support of all employees to direct SLT towards success. Mr. De Silva took over duties unofficially on January 31 amidst the chanting of ‘seth pirith’ by members of the Buddhist clergy, the SLT sources said.

The position of group CEO at SLT follows the departure of SLT CEO, Australian national Greg Young on completion of his contract. In the new post, Mr De Silva will oversee all companies that come under the SLT group, including Mobitel, whose heads would be re-designated Chief Operating Officers. Earlier these companies had independent CEOs.
