Located in the Galle District Wathugedara village, Sripathi Maha Vidyalaya has produced several knowledgeable, skillful and important citizens to the nation. As a result the school is marching forward with determination for its centenary in a few years.

In 1916 due to the efforts of late Mr. J.W. Janis Silva, a village school “Andhadola Junior School” was started with four students and one teacher. It functioned as a government school since 1960. Since then the school experienced many ups and downs and today the school conducts classes from Grade 1 to Grade 13. Advanced Level grades conduct classes in Commerce and Arts, which include languages and aesthetics.

At present, it has been upgraded as a lighthouse school in the Galle district. As at 2013 with over 1000 students, 40 teachers, Sripathy MV has grown greatly due to a proficient management system. The Principal Mr. S.K. Jagath Wimalasiri De Silva who was appointed in 2006, directs the whole school with great dedication.

Eastern Band

A well dedicated group of staff provides clear guidance to students to face all the stages of public examinations. As a result, Sripathy MV students have gained great achievements in their Grade 5, G.C.E.(O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L) examinations. The Primary section of the school plays an important role in turning out well balanced students. A.M. Asitha Mahesh of Grade 5 scored 196 marks and placed 2nd in the whole island at the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, 2007 and brought credit to the school. The results of the 2012 examination brought in seven passes.

The school maintains first class academic records in G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E.(A/L) examinations and has produced thousands of successful personalities to the nation.

The Sripathy administrators give prominence not only for curricular activities but also for the co-curricular and extracurricular activities as well. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are a part of a student’s time in the school and the students have done well in inter-school contests, both in academic and in extra- and co-curricular competitions.

Recently all island victories have poured into Sripathy MV. G.H.Dilshan Maduranga bagged the second place in the All Island “Lowa Dinana Singiththo” Speech competition in 2007, organized by the Ministry of Education and L.P. Kalani Praboda took second place at the all island English Handwriting Competition in 2010. Viraj Maduranga is another talented student who represented Southern Province in the Social Studies Quiz Competition and emerged first in the All Island competition.

Furthermore every year the college dancing and music groups, language units and sports teams bring fame to the school by winning the many events at the All Island, provincial and district level competitions.

The college provides the students several facilities which include well equipped laboratories, a well maintained library, computer unit, media unit, aesthetics unit, agriculture unit, home science unit, and Sinhala and English language units.

Sripathy MV also possesses a playground for cricket, football, netball and athletics. As a result they have secured many victories in various competitions. The football team is well known for their successes in the Galle District.

Sripathi Maha Vidyalaya, received the award as one of the best International Schools in 2011 and is striding forward with the mission of “provide a capable generation fulfilled with knowledge, skills and attitudes to enrich the standard of school community”.
