Consumers who opt for cheaper items in the light of rising prices are falling prey to unscrupulous traders
Recently the Weights and Measures Department, in a special raid took legal action against 27 traders selling grapes using doctored scales.

Sunil Gamage, who was shopping said there were a number of other items where consumers were being exploited.

Besides consumable items they include items like watches and belts from pavement hawkers as similar items sold in shops were costly and unaffordable to middle income workers he said.

“I purchased two watches at Rs. 150 each. The life-span of these watches last a maximum of three weeks” he said.

With price of goods sky-rocketing young people and middle income earners are on the lookout for bargains

Not all it seems are impressed with gold plated chains

According to Sunil Gamage the lifespan of watches bought at wayside shops do not exceed three weeks

Though good-looking imitations these products have a short life

The Weights and Measures Department nabbed 27 grape sellers using doctored scales
