The special three-member committee appointed to access the damage caused by the fire that broke out at the Colombo District Secretariat (DS) (Colombo Kachcheri) last November is due to submit its report next week.

Public Administration and Homes Affairs Ministry Secretary P.B.Abeykoon said the three members, all attached to the Ministry are presently inquiring into the raging fire that destroyed the important divisions in the DS office. Mr. Abeykoon said an additional secretary to the Ministry, a senior investigation officer and a head of the engineering division have been appointed as members of the committee.

The committee was appointed to submit a report within a month’s time and they have been investigating for about two weeks, he said.

“The fire destroyed the office of the District Secretary (Government Agent) Kamal Padmasiri, office of the Additional District Secretary, planning, accounts, administrative divisions and the record room (a part) and the armoury,” he said.

According to him, among the destroyed documents are land deeds, payment files of staff members, copies of old documents and birth, marriage and death certificates that were in the 160-year old Kachcheri.
