Two Lankan car firms fight over Mazda car sale rights

View(s):

A dispute arose this week between two Sri Lankan car companies over the authorised rights to sell the Japanese-based Mazda car here.
In a June 15 letter to the Colombo Stock Exchange, Colonial Motors said it has signed an agreement with Mazda Corp in Japan and NBK Corp, Japan to be an importer and distributor of Mazda vehicles in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

However on Tuesday, regular Mazda dealer Carmart took out newspaper advertisements saying it continues to be the distributor for Mazda vehicles and spare parts and that “suggestions that it has ceased as Mazda distributor is completely false and misleading.”
Officials of both companies were not immediately available for comment on the contradictory claims.
