Temporary worker lay-off provision approved

An “administrative arrangement” was reached this week between trade unions, businesses and the government, to manage worker lay offs stemming from the global recession.On Wednesday, key government agencies like the Finance Ministry, the Central Bank and the ministries of Labour and Export Development met with 12 leading trade unions and employer representatives, to decide on labour arrangements to minimise impacts of the global downturn.

 
Ceylinco Insurance will not change name
"After the GK debacle, many said to change our name a number of times. They said the Ceylinco name is below zero, but the answer of the CIL board was that if the father is a drunkard, that does not mean the son changes his name. We needed to be true to ourselves. This is the reason why we did not change our name," Ajith Gunawardena, Joint Deputy Chairman CIL told The Sunday Times FT.
