The ICRC will directly distribute the Indian relief consignment to 40 000 displaced families in Kilinochchi and an additional 40 000 displaced families in the Mullaitivu district in the coming weeks, the Committee said in a news release today.

The distribution will be done in line with the standard ICRC criteria - according to the greatest needs as identified while lists of beneficiaries will be proposed by Government Agents in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi and discussed with the ICRC.

The ICRC said that it will work together with the Government towards starting the distribution in the coming weeks. “The first trucks are getting ready to leave the ICRC warehouse in Colombo in the next few days. They will travel from Colombo to Vavuniya, will go through Omanthai crossing point and further on to Neddunkerny, Ottusuddan, Puthukkudiyuruppu, Tharmapuram and Mullavalai,”it said.

The ICRC added that the Indian authorities have entrusted the ICRC, with the facilitation of the Government of Sri Lanka, to transport and distribute their donation of 80 000 family parcels consisting of assorted food, hygiene items and clothes..
