Colombo stocks end easier

Colombo stocks ended lower on Monday after early gains essentially on small parcels in keeping with the trends in recent weeks where retailers are taking profits, brokers said.

Plantation stocks fell all around with tea prices in some difficulty in recent weeks while among the most traded today was Dialog – 392,500 shares at Rs 7 per share, down 25 cents from previous levels. John Keells Holdings saw little trading apart from 21,000 shares that went for Rs 68.50, down 50 cents. Among other blue chips, Aitken Spence fell by nearly 5 % while Carsons eased by 6% on low volumes, essentially trading by small retailers.

The All Share Index fell by 33.54 points to 1,856.82 while the Milanka dropped 51.35 points to 2,073.36. Turnover was Rs 175.5 million. .
