Government’s plans to import 30,000 metric tons of rice from Myanmar has been cancelled after fresh estimates showed that the country has sufficient rice stocks which could be sufficient until February next year, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena announced.

The government recently had decided to go ahead with the imports on the grounds that rice stocks were not sufficient and therefore would have to import stocks.

The current price levels will be maintained without changes, Gunawardena told a news conference attended by Paddy mill owners as well..
