Colombo indices firm on thin volumes
2008-10-24 16:55:48

Colombo shares at Friday’s closing saw some positive sentiment but stock analysts said the rather thin volumes the shares firmed on discouraged the investors towards the end of the day.

“The stock market recovered from a heavy fall with the deep discounted counters attracting some retail buying, but the thin trading volumes discouraged the traders at the end of the day,” Thakshila Hulangamuwa, Vice President Business Development Asha Phillip Securities said.

Some traders said that there is a strong possibility the indices will inch up some more in the coming week. The All Share Index saw a 15.65 points rise to 1,830.82 with Milanka moving up by 28.42 points to stand at 2,062.45 at stock market close. The turnover was at Rs 69 million.
