SI allegedly involved in fraud on the run - Police

A Sub Inspector of Police (SI) attached to the Minesterial Security Division (MSD) has fled after being allegedly involved in a financial racket, Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said.

SSP Gunasekara said he was informed of this by the Superintendant of Police (SP) of the Nugegoda police division, stating that SI B. Sarath Mendis and an unidentified woman have allegedly taken a sum of Rs. 6,732,000 from some people with the promise of sending them abroad for employment.

According to SSP Gunasekara the SI has fled his home located at 432/15, Athurugiriya Road, Malabe.

The Police Spokesman has released a picture of the SI in question. Details about SI Mendis are as follows:
