Noise Pollution Regulation amended 33 times: Environment Minister

Environment Minister Champika Ranawaka told the house today that proposals to bring about an act on Noise Pollution would be handed over to the Prime Minister soon.

He said that after it is agreed by the PM all parties would be given a chance to add more to the proposals then introduce as an act.

The minister said that the Noise Pollution Regulation has been amended 33 times by the Supreme Court in order to provide relief to the affected parties.

He mentioned this ending the adjournment motion forwarded by UNP MP Edward Gunasekare who stated that there should be amendments to the following regulations where the time limit for the use of loudspeakers should be extended till midnight in order to encourage music artists who have lost the chance participating in outdoor musical concerts.
