NEW DELHI, India’s Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon today invited Sri Lankan High Commissioner C R Jayasinghe for an urgent meeting to convey India's concerns over situation in island nation, reports said.

Menon told the Lankan envoy that Sri Lanka should take steps to address India's concerns over humanitarian situation in Sri Lanka and stop killing and harassing Indian fishermen, the reports said.

The meeting comes two days after India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed serious concern over the situation in Sri Lanka.

It also comes against the backdrop of a two-weeks’ ultimatum issued by Tamil Nadu political parties to the Singh government. The TN parties in an all-party resolution warned that their MPs would resign if the Singh government failed to stop the war in Sri Lanka and take steps to ensure the safety of Tamil civilians caught up in the war. .
