Karuna cadres raid Pilliyan's office in Batticaloa
Cadres of the karuna faction today raided an office run by the Pilliyan faction in Batticaloa town and took control of the office after detaining 13 cadres, police sources said.
The "Meenagam office" of Pilliyan has been in operation for more than two years. They also captured the office of the Pilliyan Group's official newspaper "Thamilallai."
Armed cadres of the Karuna faction stormed the office Friday around 1.00 p.m. and seized at least 20 weapons.
This was the first time the two groups have openly confronted each other in the recent months.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna during a recent visit to Batticaloa visted the particular office while Eastern province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilliyan boycotted the function. .
