Karuna takes oaths as MP, opposition boycotts

TMVP leader Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in a ceremony boycotted by most of the Opposition members.

Muralitharna attire in a black suite was sworn in at 9.30 a.m. at the commencement of parliamentary sittings amidst applauses from the UPFA, SLMC, JHU and Wimal Weerawansa’s National Freedom Front (NFF) members, but the UNP, JVP and TNA boycotted the event.

Eastern province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan was among those present in Parliament for occasion.

Meanwhile JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva today filed a petition in the Supreme Courts chellenging the appointment of Muralitharan.

The petition said that according to the electoral arrangement reached with the UPFA the vacant seat should be allocated to the JVP..
