Jackets packed with explosives, not drugs

By Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe

The suicide kits found in Mynah Doopatha

Four of five suicide jackets recovered on a tip-off received by the Chilaw police were found to be filled with explosives, and not with drugs, as the police had been led to expect. The jackets were found on Friday evening at Mynah Doopatha (Island of Mynahs), an islet in the Chilaw area. The detection was made by the anti-narcotics branch of the Chilaw police.

Acting on information received, police visited the islet and found the jackets in a spot close to an abandoned Hindu temple. Police believe the jackets were destined for Colombo. A businessman in the area and one other person have been detained by the police in this connection.
