Sasara Bendi Bemi, a tale of rebirth

Director Lakshman Pushpakumara's miniplay 'Sasara Bendi Bemi' is a miniplay revolving around a tale of rebirth and highlights the principle of cause and effect. Starring Manjula Kumari, Saranga Disasekara, Shalika Edirisinghe, Sumith Ratnayake, Susantha Chandramali, Seetha Kumari, Chithra Warakagoda, Miyuri Samarasinghe, Kurnudu Nishantha and Milinda Perera, the thirty three episode teledrama is produced by Manjula Kumari herself.

Three year child Kavindi behaves stubbornly with her parents Sarath and Nimali. She is not interested in her studies and the parents consult a doctor, who uncovers a mysterious reason for her strange behaviour. Nimali had a sister "Himali" just a mirror image of her, but they had different characteristics. Nimali was very unfair to her sister Himali and had troubled her. On the other hand Himali was a very quiet girl not only at home even at school. Sometimes innocent Himali has to bear responsibility for the problems caused by Nimali.

One day, Suresh, an intelligent young man comes to the village and Himali develops a friendship with him. This is because he is very good at narrating interesting stories. Later Nimali who comes to know this tries to build up a friendship with Suresh too. And she succeeds. Later Himali marries Kamal and starts her life. However Suresh who realizes Nimali's real character leaves her.

Nimali as usual is trying to separate Himali and Sarath by creating unwanted troubles. She infact gives telephone calls to his office. One day Nimali manages to bring Suresh, Himali and Sarath together without their knowledge and this leads to a quarrel. This creates problems in Himali's life too.

In the meantime Himali gets pregnant and one day Himali is assaulted by Sarath and she gets critically injured. Later Himali commits suicide and is reborn as a child to Nimali and she is named Kavindi. In the technical crew Janaka Chaminda handled the camera, Manjula Malwaththa edited and Shantha Thisera wrote the musical score. 'Sasara Bendi Bemi' is telecast every Saturday at 9 pm on Swarnavahini.
