Kandy schools also gear up

By Aubrey Kuruppu

The tense situation that prevailed in the country in early February compelled the postponement of Inter School Cricket. The clouds have now moved away and school boys cricketers will welcome the opportunity to continue doing what they do best playing cricket. The portents were ominous at one time and even the annual, traditional Big matches were in question. However all that is now so much water under the Mahaweli Bridge (Talking of Kandy!)

The oldest big match in Kandy – the one between Kingswood and Dharmaraja – will be played at the Asgiriya Stadium on the 7th & 8th of March. This will be the 102nd. The one day encounter, which is of far more recent origin, will take place on the 16th at the same venue.

The 92nd Trinity – Anthonian is scheduled for the 14th & 15th of March at Asgiriya. The one day match will also be played here. According to Trinity sources, the officials of the two schools will meet in the course of next week to discuss arrangements and security strategies, if any.

The St. Sylvester's - Vidyartha 50th clash will take place on 28th and 29th of March. From all accounts, there will be some side shows to mark the big occasion.

The Sri Rahula- Wariyapola Sumangala 16th Big Match will take place for sure. The officials of Sri Rahula, this year's home team, will make the arrangements shortly.
