Construction of 2,000 homes complete - SLRCS

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) said its tsunami reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the tsunami affected coastal areas in several district would be completed by the end of 2010.

Mr. S.H. Nimalkumar, National Secretary of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) said its tsunami reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the tsunami affected coastal areas in several district would be completed by the end of 2010. He added that the SLRCS had already handed over some 2,000 newly constructed houses to beneficiary families who were affected by the 2004 tsunami and fifteen affected government hospitals and dispensaries in the Batticaloa district had been rehabilitated.

Mr. Nimalkumar who is also the secretary of the Trincomalee district branch of the SLRCS, made these comments while participating at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new permanent building complex which includes a vocational training centre for the SLRCS Batticaloa district branch. He added that. The Jaffna district SLRCS meanwhile is involved in a milk collection project to encourage dairy farming in the Jaffna district.
