HNB favoured to win key title

Hatton National Bank (HNB) has a good chance of winning the Inter-Firm Mercantile Badminton Championships having entered two finals at the S.Thomas’ Indoor Gymnasium yesterday. The three day event which concludes today with the finals is sponsored by CIC Paints (Pvt) Ltd.

In the men’s A Division HNB entered the final beating Ceylinco and Commercial Bank.

Sri Lanka player Lakshan Silva of HNB will be the player to watch in the finals today.

Sampath A entered the final defeating Ceylinco and Commercial Bank.

Sampath’s Hasith Chanaka, a national player, is expected to be at his fighting best at the finals today.

In the women’s finals HNB entered the finals beating HSBC and Seylan beat HNB to enter the final. Today the final between HSBC and Seylan is expected to be close as both sides possess national players in Nadeesha Gayathri and Rasangi Ranatunbga (HNB) and Sulochana Ariyadasa (Seylan).

In the B Division SriLankan Airlines and Ceylinco B have entered the finals.

Men’s A Division: Sampath bt Ceylinco 3-0; Sampath bt Commercial Bank 3-0; HNB bt Commercial Bank 3-0; Seylan A bt HSBC 2-0; HNB A bt HSBC 2-0.

Women’s B Division: Ceylinco B bt Seylan B 3-2; Ceylinco bt Mobitel A 3-2; SriLankan A bt Seylan B 3-2; SriLankan A bt Mobitel A 3-1.
