Smallest Samadhi Buddha statue

By A.G.Wickremasinghe

The world’s smallest Samadhi Buddha statue is said to have been made by a resident of Polwatta, Kundasale. A piece of ivory from an elephant’s tusk has been used to fashion this statue of 4.5 mm in height. Sunil Wijewardana said the picture of his statue had been displayed on a website and there was a demand for the statue, but he refrained from marketing it.

Sunil is said to have the talent of drawing a sketch of the world map within 32 seconds and the Sri Lanka map in 15 seconds which he believes is a world record. Mr. Wijewardena recently displayed to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his handiwork which he had carved out of ivory.
