Premila Gamage appointed to International body

Premila Gamage, Librarian of the Institute of Policy Studies, and past Vice President of the Sri Lanka Library Association was elected to the Governing Board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) , the apex body in the field of Library & Information Science.

The election took place at the 73rd World Library and Information Congress and General Council held in Durban, South Africa in August, 2007. Ms.Gamage was also elected to other positions within IFLA as the Chairperson to the Regional Standing Committee of Asia and Oceania (RSCAO) and to the Division of Regional Activities which covers Africa, Asia & Oceania, Latin America and Caribbean.

Premila has been an active member of the profession and of the Sri Lanka Library Association. She held the post of Vice President of the Association until recently, and during her tenure she was successful in obtaining a great deal of funds from several international organizations and donors to upgrade and rehabilitate tsunami affected libraries. Premila will be leaving Sri Lanka shortly to follow a Ph.D programme at the University of Leeds, UK
