Thurstan dumped to ‘B’ division for next school’s rugby season

Thurstan have docked four points following the fracas that ensured in their game against Wesley. As a result Thurstan will play in Group B at the inter school league rugby tournament next year. Trinity has also been docked four points and as a result they have dropped to seventh place in the league standings according to Rohitha Indunil--the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Association.

Indunil added that a new format for next year is being discussed. This will see three groups with nine teams in each as opposed to the ten that featured this year. The teams that will go head to head in the President’s Premier and Chairman’s Trophies may only be finalized tomorrow following discussions between Kingswood and St. Anthony’s Kandy.

Meanwhile the Presidents Trophy powered by Caltex for clubs will kick off when Police take on CH and FC at Police Park on Friday. The following day the League and Clifford Cup Champions Kandy SC take on minnows Dimbulla RFC at Nittawela, while the runners up in both the league and knock out tournament CR and FC will host Air Force at Longden Place.

The last quarter final will see Havelocks take on Army at Havelock Park on Sunday.

The Semi Finals will be played on September 28 and 19 while the final will take place on September 23.
