President has his say and way

Colombo Municipal Council Opposition Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara and Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M.Fowzie are opposed to the suspension of the CMC and appointing a Special Commissioner as proposed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mr. Nanayakkara called on the President not to suspend the CMC and hand over administrative powers to Municipal Commissioner Jayantha Liyanage as 19 charges have been formulated against him. In Galle on Friday, President Rajapaksa was in no mood to listen to Minister Fowzie, making a strong case for the suspension of the country's biggest local body, which will take place on Sept. 20.
