Winners of ‘Through My Camera’

The award ceremony of the photographic competition, 'Through My Camera', initiated in Sri Lanka by the British Council was held on May 25 at the British Council auditorium.

The contest supported by the British High Commission and sponsored by CANON Metropolitan, to add local flavour to the NorthSouthEastWest (NSEW) UK touring photo exhibition, is one of the main features of the ZeroCarbonCity project in collaboration with The Climate Group and Magnum Photographic Agency in the UK. It features work from ten of the world's top photographers and illustrates the impact of climate change in communities from all parts of the globe, and the work that the North, South, East and West are doing to reduce carbon emissions.

Entries were received from newspapers, magazines and professional photographers and were judged by two leading local professional photographers and a climate change expert.

The chief guest for the evening was the British High Commissioner Dominick Chilcott.
The winners were as follows:

Open Category Award Winners:

1st place - B K Muditha Madawa - Freelance Photographer and student of the Open University of Sri Lanka

2nd place - N.K. Anjana Silva - Final year medical student, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya.

3rd place - Upul Rodrigo - Working for CEYSHIP Management Private Ltd. in technical operations.

Highly commended certificates in the open category were awarded to:

Terence De Silva, Nimal Manorathne, R.H Upul Jayantha, K. Balendra, Asela Karunaratne and Isuru Perera.
Press & Professional Category Award Winners:

1st place - Lakmal Wasantha - Photographer from Lakbima
2nd place - Priyantha Fernando-Professional Photographer attached to Photo House Digital Colombo
3rd place - by Manoj Ratnayake - Photographer from Daily Mirror
Highly commended certificates in the Press & Professional category were awarded to: Sri Lal Gomes, Jayanthi Kuru Utumpala, Panduka De Silva, A.P.S Moses and Ponnudurai Raveendran.
