Thurstan hit by gale force ‘Pete’

* St’ Peter’s 67 *Thurstan 0

By Shon De Fry

St’ Peter’s College was just too hot for Thurstan. They emerged victorious by a massive margin of 67 points (6 goals and 5 tries) to nil in their Singer Division one league rugby tournament game played at Longden Place yesterday. The Peterites simply out sized and out classed Thurstan who never seemed at any point to be in the game.

At the initial stages St. Peter’s who gave undue attention to their opponents seemed to be constantly sharing possession, but, half way through the first half they broke their shackles and came to their own when Dulina Bultjens crossed the opposing try line for the first time. Thereafter Petes scored twice more in that half through Shero Fernando to lead 15-0 at half time.

The second half was all Peters’, as they used their weight advantage to run in eight more tries. They thus converted the game in to a brutal display of power. Bultjens added four more tries to his tally while Dilshan Paul, Vidura Karunaratne, Peterite skipper Renuka Jayasinghe, Prashan Fonseka and Samson Roy chipped in with the others. Irfath Meedin and Harsha Weerakkody added the extra points to six of the eight that were scored. It was obvious that the home side was getting frustrated with no less than three players being sent to the ‘sin bin’.
