Another humble pie for the lions

By Aubrey Kuruppu

Trinity is finding life in the ‘A’ Division a little difficult. Last evening, on home turf at Pallekele, they were edged out 14 points (1 try, 3 penalties) to 13 (2 tries, 1 penalty) by the Antonians in a lack luster game that seldom reached exciting heights.

Fly half Roshan Wijesiri scored all the points for the winners. After Wijesiri and Kirinde had traded early penalties, the defining moment came late in the first half. Prop Satya Ranatunga was caught in possession and the ball snatched away by Wijesiri who scored far right. That made it 8-3 to the Antonians at lemons.

Jazeer Hassan, the flanker, scored twice for Trinity, from close to the line situations. Winger Ishan Deen provided the most excitement with a brilliant run that ended with a touch down – but he had stepped out in going over.

Trinity will be up against it in future games on account of a mounting injury tally. The skipper, Sean Wanigasekera, too is obviously carrying a bad injury.

Referee – D. Nimal.
