Asiri Laboratories planning to expand islandwide

The laboratories of the Asiri Group of Hospitals, a pioneer in Lab technology for over 22 years, offers state of the art facilities for research and is planning to establish 10-15 branches islandwide. Currently it has units in Kandy, Kalubowila, Matara, Negombo and Ragama with a branch in Kurunagala is in the pipeline.

“Of these (current units), around 7000-8000 tests are done at the main headquarters in Colombo while Kandy carries out over 1000 tests and Kalubowila chips in with another 350 on a daily basis. Despite the large number and types of test we carry out the price is the same as the other labs. However we assure high quality, reliability and promptness in our services,” according to Director Laboratories Neil Priyath John.

A company press release said Asiri Laboratories has many firsts to its name and conducts many tests that are done nowhere else. Its popularity and promptness has grown consistently over the years to the point that other government and private hospitals regularly send samples over to the Asiri Laboratories for scrutiny.

Consultant Physician Dr. Sriyantha Mendis has described the lab “as the main success at Asiri Hospital.” He also pointed out that in his long association with the lab, he had observed numerous prompt and accurate tests being done and since external quality control is assured, Asiri Hospital’s Laboratory “can be compared with any lab in the world.”

Since its inception Asiri Laboratories have always concentrated on developing technology in line with the times, even when such machines could not return profits. These trends have been maintained over the decades until Asiri Laboratories have become the only stop for people seeking genetic tests, which is still relatively new to Sri Lanka.
