Cosmic Rays expands

Cosmic Rays, one of the oldest bands in Sri Lanka, expanded their repertoire to cater to more audiences. Cosmic Rays, the name more synonymous with Country music for many years, has now changed its way to more pop/rock and commercial style.

We were one of the original country bands in Sri Lanka and lately we realized that being a country band, we can't move ahead. Country is good for a special event and for limited gigs. So we decided to change the game and started doing more Commercial Pop, Rock, Reggae, Latin and Rock n' Roll mainly to cater to Sri Lankan markets' said Tyronne Pieries, the founder member and the leader of the band.

Cosmic Rays now comprises Tyronne on lead vocals, Sampath Kuruwita on keyboards and vocals, Clifford de Andrews on guitar and vocals, Devan Fernando on bass and vocals, Dilhan Visidagama on drums and vocals and Sidantha Pieries on vocals.

'With new additions and change of repertoire made the band sounds better than ever before. During the recent past, we have been mainly catering for weddings, dances and other social gigs, due to the varieties in songs we accommodate' he said.

Cosmic Rays perform on Sundays on a regular basis at Heist lobby bar at the Ceylon Continental Hotel.
