NPC Secretariat at Kanniya, EPC at Trincomalee

From Sinniah Gurunathan, Trincomalee correspondent

Following the recent ruling by the Supreme Court on the temporarily merged North-East Provincial Council (NEPC), the Governor's Secretariat has set up separate administrations for the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) and the Eastern Provincial Council (EPC).

The secretariat of the NPC is to start its functions, from February 14, temporarily, at the building complex at Varothia Nagar near Kanniya, located about two and a half kilometres from Trincomalee town along the Trinco-Anuradhapura road until a new chief secretariat for the NPC is established in Vavuniya town in the Northern Province.

This building complex at Varothia Nagar was constructed earlier to house the provincial ministry of agriculture of the merged NEPC.

NPC’s newly appointed Chief Secretary S. Rangarajah will move to the Varothia Nagar building complex on February 14 with his secretaries and staff. Earlier he was the Chief Secretary of the NEPC.

R. Thiakalingam who earlier served in the Provincial Education Ministry of the NEPC has been appointed Chief Secretary of the Eastern Provincial Council with his office in the Chief Secretariat building located along Inner Harbour Road in Trincomalee town.
Earlier the Chief Secretary of the NEPC functioned from this building.

Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrema is now functioning as the Governor of the Eastern Provincial Council and acting Governor of the Northern Provincial Council. Earlier he functioned as the Governor of the merged NEPC.
