    A Poem for the week

New subjects for the year

I like to go to school very much, because we are learning different subjects. We are also doing games on these subjects, such as English, Maths, Sinhala, Science and Social Studies.

From 2007 I'm going to learn new and fun subjects. They are going to be amazing. I'm going to do music as a new subject. I can play the piano and flute too and also there is another special subject called P.T.S. I love that subject very much. While we are doing this subject we can learn to cook, to make artificial things and how to do our day to day activities more easily and happily.

I am going to keep a pace forward in Dhamma school. They promoted me to grade 9 but I should be in grade 8. I'm so proud of that and I'm going to meet new friends and also I'm going to learn new Dhamma stories. I like to learn different stories called 'Jathika Katha'.

The Parrot

There was a parrot in a cage,
In a very unhappy stage.
It had no freedom to fly,
High in the clear, blue sky.

It had enough food to eat;
Fruits, chillies and wheat.
But it wanted to be free,
Just like you and me.

The parrot became weak;
It didn't open its beak.
It didn't eat anymore,
So the owner let it go.

The parrot flew far away
And it happily lives today,
In its own, little nest,
In peace, joy and rest!

My new class

My new class is Grade 3 - 3. There are 40 girls in this class. My new teacher is Miss Subashini. She is very kind. Our monitor is Pawani.

My new class is neat and clean. There is a calendar and there are beautiful pictures in this class. The dustbin is in the corner of the class. There is a large blackboard in the classroom. We keep a flower vase on the teacher's table.

Everyday we arrange the desks and chairs. The monitor and the vice-monitor Sandali tell us what to do, to keep the class beautiful.

Something I am looking forward to

I think this is the luckiest year I have faced. I shall try to fulfill my ambitions in 2007. Now I am in grade five.

Last year when I was in grade four, I was the winner of the 100 m race in our sportsmeet. In 2006, in every term test I scored the highest marks for English. I was first in two terms in my class.

In this term I am looking forward to take part in three items in our sports meet. Further, I want to be the English Leader of my new class.

Last year my friend Tharuka was the monitor of our class. This time I want to be the monitor of my new class. Because of the scholarship classes I did not go for the netball practice last year. But in the new term I hope to go for netball practice.
