AIESEC Develops Entrepreneurship skills of University Students

The AIESEC chapter in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura held a discussion based on entrepreneurship development on 22nd of January. Mr Rohan Pallewaththa CEO Lankaharness Pvt (Ltd) was the guest speaker at this event.

The event was a new experience to the students of university of Sri Jayewardenepura. The students had the chance to express their ideas on entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurial minds can help to the development of Sri Lanka. The rational behind the discussion was to allow undergraduates to identify their talents in becoming successful entrepreneurs. The discussion was followed by an inspiring speech by Mr.Pallewaththa who shared his success story of courage, luck and sheer determination with the students. Following the speech a question and answer session was held for the undergraduates to interact with Mr Pallewaththa

The event was part of the project ‘Step Forward Sri Lanka’, a project run by AIESEC in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura with the vision of “Becoming the most powerful platform which enables young Entrepreneurial minds to shoulder the development of Sri Lanka through international trade”.

This projects aims to establish bridge between Sri Lanka and other countries by bringing young foreign interns to Sri Lankan companies and providing opportunities for undergraduates of Sri Lanka to go on internship abroad and participation in learning activities like the one already happened.

This event is the first of a series of 5 discussions followed by a workshop and a conference with the aim of developing the entrepreneurial skills of the University students.

AIESEC is an international platform for young people to develop and discover their potential. The platform provides opportunities of working abroad, learning networks, leadership experience, conferences, and supports self-discovery.

Operating in over 800universities in 95 countries with a membership around 22, 000 undergraduates taking up over 5000 leadership positions and over 4000 work abroad opportunities annually, AIESEC is recognized as the world’s largest student run organization.

AIESEC in Sri Lanka is present in 4 universities in Sri Lanka - Universities of Moratuwa, Kelaniya, Sri Jayawardenapura and Colombo.

More than 100 undergratuates are volunteer members gaining practical experience in the areas of leadership, social responsibility, entrepreneuarship, working in an international environment and soft skills development.
