Lankan teens win under19 opener

Sri Lanka’s Under 19 team got off to a perfect start in their tri nation quest in Malaysia. The Lankans easily beat the hosts by five wickets in the lung opener. Skipper Sachith Pathirana won the toss invited the home side to bat first. Seamer Tisara Perera then ripped out the heart of the top order. Perera finished with impressive figures of 3 for 25 off his allotted 10 overs.

Sri Lanka got off to a bad start with opener Dimuth Karunaratne being run out for three. However, Lahiru Thirimanne with a top score of 45 anchored the innings. He was helped by cameos from Mohamed Feshal, Roshane Silva and Pathirana. Silva and Pathirana shared an unbroken stand of 35 for the seventh wicket which ensured that their team won with 15 overs to spare.
Sri Lanka will play England in their next match tomorrow.

Malaysia 149 for 8 in 50 overs; (Aminuddin Eamly 34 and M. Shafiq M. Sharif 27. Tisara Perera 3 for 25 and Sachith Pathirana 2 for 36)

Sri Lanka 152 for 6 in 35 overs; (Lahiru Thirimanne 45, Mohamed Feshal 22, Roshane Silva 35 not out and Sachith Pathirana 27 not out. Anwar Arudin 2 for 16).
