Reap

Guitars? Check. Drums? Check. "Frenzied Rockers"? Check. Safe place? Check! Strange? True. 'Underground Club Nights', organised by the KMC Youth is billed to give rock a whole new meaning! Kicking off at the Café D’Artist, from 8 p.m. onwards, every first Saturday of the month, 'Underground Club Nights' is rock nights with a twist!

Although 'Underground Club Nights' initially kicked off in May 2006, the organisers of the event, the KMC Youth, want to revamp the whole concept by making it a sort of monthly ritual where anyone and everyone who appreciates rock, can have a place to enjoy the music in peace. Having taken note of the fact that most rock-related events are male-dominated, the organisers had felt that currently, there wasn't any place where female rockers could really go and let loose without having to worry about being bothered.

Kross

Therefore, one of the main motives of revamping 'Underground Club Nights' is to create an ideal, safe environment for any rock enthusiast (irrespective of sex or age) to simply chill out and enjoy the music being played.

In keeping with this month's theme Rock Evo, the three rock bands, Sword of the Spirit, Kross and Reap will each perform during the course of the evening. The bands are picked depending on the theme for the month, how compatible they are musically and what combination/line-up can produce the most variety during the course of one night.

Getting a sneak preview of the bands billed to perform at the event, first up is Reap – an alternative rock band, that is mostly influenced by the likes of Creed, Delirious, ScottStapp, Switchfoot, MercyMe, Three Doors and United Life. Meanwhile they're also working on a few originals such as 'The One', 'Sinner’s Story' and 'You Stepped Down'. They're mostly inspired by life experiences, heartbreak, frustrations, relationships or loyal friends etc. Sometimes, they even sing spiritually-inspired songs, when they realise how much they've been through and how there's always been a helping hand no matter what.

2005's 'TNL Onstage' first runner-up, the five-member outfit, Sword of the Spirit, specialise in heavy metal and thrash etc. Although influenced by the likes of Kutless, Dream Theatre, Skillet, Killswitch Engage, this band lays a lot of emphasis on originality. So much so that they hope to release their debut album by the end of this year, inclusive of the likes of 'Sacrifice', 'Doorway to the other side', ‘Insurgents of Babylon', 'Promise' and 'Dawn Tredder'.

And finally we come to the last of the three acts, Kross, a relatively new four-piece band, which will make their debut public performance here. They too are greatly influenced by bands like Creed, System of a Down and have quite a wide range from alternative rock right up to hard rock.

They too hope to perform a few of their originals at this event.

So if it's “pure undisturbed rocking” you're into, then make your way to Café D’Artist (above Horton Place Baristas) on the first Saturday of next month, to 'rock' the night away!

Underground Club Nights – Rock Evo is in association with Red Bull – Energy Drink, Cafe D’Artist – the best of Indian cuisine and KMC Youth. Tickets for the performancewill be availble at the entrance.
