How to miss a free trip?
Some athletic officials who have now made it a habit of making overseas trips are a concerned lot. The World Athletic Championships will be held on August 27, 2007 in Osaka, Japan. Ironically so far the only two athletes who have reached the qualifying standards are Susanthika Jayasinghe and Rohan Pradeep Kumara. The poor officials are now concerned that this time they will miss the golden opportunity of making a free trip to Japan.

Back door entry
In spite there being a lot of applicants who sat the umpires qualifying examination there is an accusation that some others are making it into the ‘white coats’ without sitting the examination at all. They say a lot of people are angry over the matter.

The budding businessman
A whistle blower who was demoted from ‘A’ Division to ‘B’ somehow manages to find a place on overseas tours. His first on returning is the Duty Free stores where he buys electronic goods aplenty. But this individual is not a spend thrift. What he buys, he sells albeit with the duty component added.

All balls
This junior coach conducts his classes some where close to Borella. He also a conducts an yearly junior cricket tournament. This time the SLC gave him the necessary amount of cricket balls to conduct the tournament, but he decided to skip the preliminary round matches and released the balls from the pre-quarter final stage matches. About 30 teams participated in this tournament. Now this coach is in possession of a load of balls that he could use for his own purposes.

Recommendation list
The Premier League captains were asked to submit their umpires reports. The surprise of the SLC officials the names that scored here were the lesser known names. So the people that matter have made a request from some captains to include the names of some well known umpires names in their recommendation list.

On the bench
SLC is contemplating filing charges against seven of its former officials which includes two former presidents. One of the charges against a former president is that he had made 33 overseas visits in one year – all with SLC funds.

The cool fish
A coach from a club from the Panadura area was banned for misbehaviour. But, it is reported that he is carrying on regardless. Though there is another appointed only by name, this coach who also comes on air over the electronic media very often is still taking the Rs 40,000/- given to the official coach of the club.
