Budding actors! Here’s your chance to work with UK theatre director

Want to work with UK theatre director and teacher William Scott Richards? He will be in Sri Lanka for 8 weeks to create two theatre pieces: an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet and Caryl Churchill’s contemporary play Far Away.

The British Council is looking for people for a variety of roles in these two plays. Auditions are open to all above 16 years of age, both experienced and not so experienced. Musical skills are also sought. Teachers and directors are also encouraged to take part.

The productions will be born out of workshops on approaches to acting techniques and working with Shakespeare on stage. The workshops and rehearsals will be highly practical and full attendance will be required in the early weeks. William Scott Richards has worked for the British Council before in Sri Lanka over twelve years ago. He taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London for ten years, directs for the BBC and has directed and taught across the world including the West End in London, Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), New York etc.

Please send your expression of interest with contact details, a short written statement about yourself and your preferred date for the audition either by email to ranmalimirchandani@gmail.com or by hand or by post to British Council, 49 Alfred House Gardens, Colombo 3 by December 28.
