Top House official’s duties chopped

The Director of Administration of Parliament has been relieved of his duties except those relating to the transport division, alleging he leaked information from personal files to be cited in a letter that JVP MP K.D.Lal Kantha sent to President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently citing alleged malpractices at the Legislature.

The director was informed of the decision by the Secretary General of Parliament who arrived at the decision after consultation with the Speaker. The director was told that if he was unable to maintain the confidentiality of personal files, he should be relieved of his duties.

However the director had denied the allegations as unfounded and baseless and protested at the decision.

Mr. Lal Kantha wrote to the President two weeks ago detailing several alleged malpractices in the administration of Parliament and asked the President to initiate an inquiry into them.
