Lenova notebook launched

Sri Lanka’s personal computer industry just got bigger with the launch of the Lenovo 3000 N range of notebooks. The introduction of the Lenovo 3000 range to the local market comes hot on the heels of a global launch earlier this year.

Managing Director for Lenovo South Asia Neeraj Sharma told The Sunday Times FT in an interview that armed with the new product range Lenovo would be looking to tap the small and medium business market as well as individual consumers. Sharma noted that Lenovo held back the launch in a bid to ensure that the correct market model was in place to facilitate a strong penetration into the targeted market segment.

Keen to reach the individual consumer segment, Lenovo is marketing its 3000 N range at an attractive starting price of Rs. 73,000 and is available on an easy-payment scheme at Abans outlets.

Sharma noted that Lenovo is targeting Sri Lanka as a ‘potential growing market’ and expects to see further growth stimulated by the now flourishing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. “BPO has stimulated growth in the market and has added a new dimension to the industry.

The BPO industry has also enabled us to predict potential growth because expansion would be equivalent to the headcount,” he said. Sharma added that he viewed Sri Lanka’s IT boom as an extension of India’s own IT success stsory and also noted that Lenovo is aiming to grow twice the rate of the market in Sri Lanka. (MA)

Lenovo has engaged Trident Corporation as its sole distribution partner while appointing Abans, Neat Technology and Kobian Technologies function as resellers for the Lenovo 3000 series. IBM Global services will undertake all service and support for the product range.

Currently Lenovo’s ThinkPads and ThinkCentres, part of its Think range is targeted at large and medium-to-large enterprises and with the launch of the new series Lenovo is promising further expansion in its products portfolio and market reach.
