Boost for Ceylon Tea promotion in Japan

With the establishment of the new Tea Promotion Unit (TPU) at the Sri Lankan embassy in Tokyo, during March 2004, Ceylon Tea exports to Japan have been increasing in leaps and bounds.

The Overseas Tea Office located in Tokyo by Sri Lanka Tea Board covers all promotional work for Ceylon Tea in the Asia/Pacific Region from China & South Korea in the Far East right down to Singapore & Malaysia in South East Asia and as far as Australia & New Zealand in Oceania, the embassy said.

The Ceylon Tea promotional activities in Japan reached a new apex in October when a long series of events and programs were launched by the Tea Promotion Unit. The participation of Sri Lanka Tea Board at the International Food Fair 2006 in Kitakyshu. The TPU coordinated the participation of Jafferjee Brothers, Mabroc Teas (Pvt) Lt, Juria International Co. Ltd and Tomo World to promote their pure Ceylon tea product range.

The 30th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Tea Board was commemorated in grand fashion by the TPU by organizing a Ceylon Tea Queen Contest at the Hilton Hotel, Tokyo for the first time.

The promotion week reached a climax on October 14-15 with the annual Sri Lanka Festival 2006 at Yoyogi Park, Tokyo held for the third successive year. TPU also organized the participation of the Sri Lanka Tea Board along with tea booths from Stassen Group, Tea Tang Ltd. Mabroc Teas, Juria International, Tomo World, Wee Do Trading, Arakawa Shoji etc.
