Baurs secures lucrative
Mead Johnson agency
Pioneer firm, J. L. Morrison Son and Jones (Ceylon)
Ltd, has lost its long-established sales rights of popular products
like Sustagen and Morrison’s Gripe Water with Baurs entering
the picture as the new agent, industry sources said.
Others who bid for this agency which also markets Sustacal and Valmelix
were Hemas Holdings and Hayleys. J.L. Morrison said last week in
a statement that Mead Johnson Nutritionals Ltd, manufacturers of
infant and children nutritional products, had ended the product
distribution rights to the former after a 50-year relationship but
did not name Mead Johnson’s new partner.
The company said it was unable to arrive at an agreement on the
newly proposed terms and conditions with Mead Johnson. “This
agency had contributed to about 40 percent of our gross sales over
the years,” the statement said, adding that J. L. Morrison
is planning to restructure ‘some activities’ to bridge
the void created by this distributorship. “We have already
taken steps to restructure our activities to bridge this void.”
