Bolakoro to ‘don’ Lankan jersey?
By Harry Jayachandra
Korea beat Arabian Gulf by 20 points to five in their World Cup qualifying round game. Korea now joins Japan in the final round and will play for the Cup at the Rugby Asiad to be staged in Colombo this November. They will be joined by the winners of the match Between Sri Lanka and Hong Kong which takes place next Sunday in Hong Kong.

Dilroy Fernando who referred the match between Korea and the Arabian Gulf expressed a bit of optimism ahead of Sri Lanka’s match. Speaking to The Sunday Times from Abu Dhabi Fernando said that Hong Kong had beaten the Singapore national team but lost to the Singapore Barbarians in two practice games.

Meanwhile pending Sports Ministry approval Jimmy Bolakoro may become the first overseas player to don the national jersey for Sri Lanka. Manager of the Lankan team Sanjay Fernando confirmed that Jimmy was practising with the 30 Member Pool. Fernando added that the squad members had no major injuries and training both in the morning and evening.

In another development the Sports Ministry had reappointed the selection committee to serve for another year. The Committee comprises of Chaminda Rupasinghe, Asanga Seneviratne, Rohan Abeykkon, Lasitha Guneratne and Nazim Mohommad. Rupasinghe told The Sunday Times that they would be finalising the 23 member team by Wednesday. “We are still waiting to hear the verdict on Jimmy before naming the squad. But I do not foresee any major changes given our performance against China,” said Rupasinghe.
