Absolute entertainment

By Tharangani Perera

Melt into the warmth of lights… Savor the hypnotic sounds… And get caught up in the action! Mingle with hundreds of screaming fans who dance to the rhythm of Sri Lankan talent. Tucked away in the outskirts of entertainment is Sound Vision, which works to preserve your enthusiasm and spirit. Who are they? Director Amri Adeeb reveals all…

What gave rise to Sound Vision?
“As any venture, we started small. In the beginning, we were just supplying sounds and lighting for concerts. After a while, we went into event management, and before we knew it, Sound Vision had developed into a fully-fledged music studio.”

Who’s behind the scenes at Sound Vision?
“Our team is closely related to the world of entertainment in Sri Lanka. Sound Vision is owned by Bathiya Jayakody of B’n’S. Ijaz and Mushin are in charge of Marketing, Chamara manages the events, Mohamed is our Public Relations Officer and Media Coordinator, Chatura handles the administration, Nishad manages the Finances, Manuranga directs the video aspect of the productions, while I direct the team.”

Would you like to describe the extent of the activities at Sound Vision?
“As a recording studio, we are able to provide service for an entire production. Starting from lights and sounds, we extend our services to recording music videos, DJing, web designing and songwriting in seven different languages – Sinhalese, English, Tamil, Hindi, Urdu, Arabic and Panjabi.”

How does Sound Vision differ from similar institutions?
“Sound Vision can complete approximately 95% of an entire production within the studio. Except for printing, everything is done inside. We can complete an entire production in house.”

How do your productions differ from those by similar institutions?

“Usually, the stage backdrop for a concert is an image of the respective artiste. We replaced this conventional setting with a glass backdrop. In concerts for which we have been in charge of decorations, the backdrop has been fashioned by glass. For instance, we would scan an image of the artiste and project it onto a glass backdrop. It’s very high-tech and preprogrammed.”

Tell us about a few productions by Sound Vision in the recent past.

“We have mainly been involved with local artistes such as Bathiya and Santhush, Stigmata and other artistes represented by The Rock Company. We have been involved with various local innovation groups, ABS Pvt. Ltd and Derana TV. Also, we have supplied various services for important events such as the Sharook Khan and UB40 concerts, Sirasa Superstar and the Miss Sri Lanka pageant. We also handled the entire nine concerts in the Call For Hope series, which was initiated three years ago. The proceeds of the Call For Hope series have gone to various good causes since its launch.”

In your opinion, what is the most unique thing about Sound Vision?

Sound Vision has very strong ethics when it comes to entertainment. We do not associate with artistes or products that are involved in drugs and breach of copyright. We also have a strong policy about the language usage by artistes on stage. On a different note, Sound Vision has a strong approach towards corporate social responsibility. We help the talented youth in the industry by providing them with scholarships.

What are your plans for the future?
“We plan to fly in two international music artistes by November. We will also contribute largely towards Stigmata’s concerts, which are scheduled to take place later on during this year. In addition, in November, we are launching a six month campaign, which will oppose drug abuse. The campaign will kick off with a walk, and include concerts and awareness conferences. We also hope to introduce our own recording label in the near future.”
